Wildlife at Your Doorstep is at La Paloma

From toucans overhead to pumas on the path — nature finds you here

Reclusive pumas do appear around the grounds and trails of the lodge, so a sighting isn’t out of the question!

When it comes to seeing wildlife at La Paloma Lodge, you don’t just visit the rainforest you live within it. Perched above the Pacific on Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula, our grounds are part of one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. Scarlet macaws cross the sky in pairs. Howler monkeys announce the dawn. And sometimes, nature’s rarest guests stroll right by, like the elegant puma or a curious tapir. Here, wildlife encounters aren’t a scheduled activity. They’re part of the daily rhythm, unfolding in ways that surprise, delight, and leave you with stories you’ll never forget.

Every corner of La Paloma holds a discovery. On a guided morning walk, you might find a jewel-like tree frog resting in the shade. Look up, and you’ll see toucans gliding between branches, their bills catching the sunlight. Our location, deep jungle and primary rainforest overlooking the ocean, brings together an astonishing variety of species. With expert local guides, night tours reveal another world entirely: glowing eyes in the trees, the songs of nocturnal birds, and the quiet shuffle of unseen creatures. Whether from your balcony or the forest trail, you’re always in the heart of the wild here.
