Caño Island

Caño Island Biological Reserve, only 10 miles or 45 minutes from Drake, is a world apart from the mainland. Diquis Indians once used this island as burial grounds, however little is known about the pre-Colombian artifacts that you will come upon on the tour. A morning hike will take you through the forest to breathtaking lookout points and along rushing creeks. Our guides will introduce local plant species and name any wildlife you encounter on your tour. The afternoon on the island is spent on the beach. Take advantage of Caño’s superb array of water species. This protected area provides a haven for manta rays, eel, octopus, lobster, and hundreds of vividly colored tropical fish. Caño’s clear blue, tropically warm water and coralline reefs are a snorkeler’s paradise. Caño is a full day tour and includes guides, a picnic lunch, snorkeling equipment, and transportation to and from the Lodge.
