We all continue to marvel about the GREAT staff, the wonderful food, the incredibly fun choices of things to do, the knowledge and enthusiasm of our guide, Randall, and the complex, pristine beauty of Costa Rica and it’s people. Katie, our two families have traveled together quite a bit. Without even a close second, we all agree that our trip to La Paloma Lodge was by far the best and most fun ever. We not only laughed and had excellent adventures, we all learned so much about the beauty and importance of the rain forest to our world. In terms of the things we did and saw, there were no first places – they were all first place! The trip to Corcovado, the trip to Cano Island, the sea kayaking, the snorkeling, the canopy tour (NOT first place for Nancy and me) and even our trips into the village all provided us with opportunities for learning and almost always - laughter. If there was a first place for us, it was, without question, the staff. How do you do it? Everyone was pleasant, helpful, nice, accommodating and in many cases, fun! We still marvel at your never-ending patience to the myriad of questions and requests from all the guests, at the depth and scope of Randall’s knowledge and enthusiasm for his country, at Geovanny’s ability to concoct fun libations (not to mention that charming smile) and at Nancy’s ability to turn from “machete yielding frond chopper” to gracious and gorgeous hostess – without breaking a sweat! We all seem to have picked up the word “perfecto” as part of our everyday working vocabulary and it so aptly describes the staff and their commitment to excellence at all levels. Needless to say, we all want to send our love and thanks and gratitude to all of you. But above all, we want to come back We don’t know when it will be but we will give you fair warning to prepare for the “International Party Aunts” and company. From the beginning of the planning of this trip, Andrea was incredibly helpful, answering all our questions and helping to plan our stay. Nichole and all the staff of La Paloma were just terrific. We never met the chefs, but we truly enjoyed their work; the meals were all wonderfully prepared. Javier was a most amazing guide, full of information and so skilled in leading us through the snorkeling and the hiking. I wish I could name every one of your terrific staff, because every member we encountered during our stay was wonderful. Our room seemed like something out of a dream. We loved sleeping to the sound of the surf and my son adored the little gekkos that came out in the evening to catch the bugs on his window. It was amazing to wake up one morning to find monkeys in the trees! We spent another morning on our deck watching a red-lored parrot eating his breakfast. "What a trip! We had such a good time. This has to rate as our best ever trip by far. Everything was just perfect. The lodge, Kate and Nicole, were just great, the food was superb. The ranchos were terrific. The trips offered by the lodge with Victor and Javier as guides were spectacular, we learned so much. But what I think I enjoyed the most was just being there. I would wake up before dawn and just lay in bed listening to the jungle wake up. The noise was spectacular, the diversity of the bird calls and monkey howls was something I will never forget. My bedroom in Salt Lake feels like a hospital room compared to the rancho. What a cool place. La Paloma is a real treasure: DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING!! We feel as if somehow we stumbled across one of the few real gems in a world of Mc Donalds sameness. Our lives will be enriched with the memory of your lodge and it's environs.
